Access Central Jail Roster
The Central jail roster is managed through the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office because the City of Central does not operate its own jail. Anyone arrested by the Central Police Department gets booked at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. You can search the jail roster online through the EBRSO Inmate List Application or the statewide VINE system, both at no cost. This page covers how to look up inmates from Central, who handles bookings, and where to call for more information on jail roster searches in the area.
Central Quick Facts
Where Central Arrests Are Held
"City of Central utilizes East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office for detention services." That means every arrest made by Central police ends up at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. The facility is located at 2867 Brig. General Isaac Smith Blvd in Scotlandville, LA 70807. Central does not have a holding cell or lockup of its own. All booking and housing falls to the parish.

When Central police officers make an arrest, they transport the person to the parish prison for booking. The booking process can take a few hours. Once it is done, the inmate shows up on the jail roster. If you are checking on someone who was just arrested, give it some time before searching online. New bookings may not appear for a couple of hours after the arrest happens.
Central shares the parish prison with Baton Rouge, St. George, and all other communities in East Baton Rouge Parish. The jail roster you search will show inmates from across the entire parish, not just Central. You can filter by name to find the person you are looking for.
Search the Central Jail Roster Online
The main way to search the Central jail roster is through the EBRSO Parish Prison Inmate List. This is a public tool run by the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office. You can search by name and see who is currently in custody. The results show charges, bond amounts, and booking dates. It is free and open to anyone.
The Louisiana VINE system provides another way to check on inmates booked from Central and the rest of East Baton Rouge Parish.
VINE covers all 64 parishes and lets you set up alerts when an inmate's status changes.
To search, start with the person's last name. Add a first name to narrow things down. If the name is common (which happens a lot in a parish this big), use a date of birth or middle name to find the right person. The inmate list shows only people currently in custody. Anyone who bonded out or got released will no longer appear on the roster.
Note: The EBRSO inmate list updates regularly, but a brand new booking might take a short while to show up in the system.
Central Police Department and Jail Roster
The Central Police Department handles law enforcement for the City of Central. Their office is at 9339 Sullivan Road, Baton Rouge, LA 70818. You can reach them at (225) 261-5988. The department makes arrests but does not hold anyone in custody past the point of transport. All detention is handled by the parish.
Central also has a sheriff substation that works alongside the city police. "Central Police Department: 225-367-1254. Central Fire Department: 225-261-2000. Central Sheriff Substation: (225) 389-5176." The substation is part of the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office and provides extra law enforcement coverage for the Central area. If you need to file a report or have questions about a case, either the police department or the substation can help.
"Central Municipal Services 6703 Sullivan Road Central, LA 70739 Phone: 225.262.5000." This is where the city handles general municipal business. For jail roster questions, though, the sheriff's office or the EBRSO inmate list is the better resource. The city government does not manage detention records.
Central Jail Roster on VINE
The VINE Link website gives you a second way to search the Central jail roster. Search under East Baton Rouge Parish. VINE is part of the Louisiana Automated Victim Notification System, set up under LSA-R.S. 15:1229. It was built so crime victims could track the person who harmed them, but the search feature works for everyone.
You can register for alerts on VINE. When you do, you get a notification by call, text, or email if the inmate gets released, transferred, or has a court date. The LAVNS phone line at 1-866-528-6748 runs around the clock and works even if you do not have internet access. This is helpful if you need to know the moment someone's status changes at the parish prison.
Public Records Law and Central Arrests
Under Louisiana's Public Records Law (LSA-R.S. 44:1), jail roster data is public. You can look up anyone booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison without giving a reason. The record shows the person's name, what they are charged with, and when they were booked. This applies to arrests made in Central, Baton Rouge, St. George, and everywhere else in the parish.
Some records are restricted. LSA-R.S. 15:574.12 keeps certain offender records confidential. Pre-sentence reports, parole files, and data gathered by the Department of Public Safety and Corrections are not public. But the basic booking data remains open. The law allows public access to an offender's age, offense, date of conviction, length of sentence, and any misconduct while incarcerated. So the jail roster itself stays accessible to anyone who wants to search it.
Louisiana also passed LSA-R.S. 14:405 in 2011, which bars inmates from creating social media accounts while they are in jail or prison. This is separate from the jail roster but part of the larger set of laws that govern incarceration in the state.
Note: If you need certified copies of arrest records for legal proceedings, contact the East Baton Rouge Parish Clerk of Court.
